Fair FAQ

There is a lot to know when it comes to the fair! Please read through this page carefully.

It's important to refer back to this page throughout the process and especially before you make your final plans for the big day.  We expect that there may be changes and/or additions to this information as the fair approaches.

What is included in my booth space?

You will receive an 8 foot table, and 2 chairs, unless otherwise noted.

How can I make a special request regarding my booth?

Special requests for booths (ex. location, size, electrical outlet, extra chairs, space for a rack) must be made through email (kidpreneurniagara@gmail.com) before October 5th

Do I need to bring a table cloth/cover?

Yes!

You will need to bring a table cloth to cover the table.

Are there any rules regarding my booth that I need to be aware of?

Yes!

  • Everything you bring must fit within the bounds of your booth area without infringing on another booth's space.

  • Once provided to you, your booth location cannot be changed or switched with any other business.

  • If under the age of 8, only one adult is permitted to be stationed at the booth at a time. Otherwise, we encourage kidpreneurs to work independently without parental support.

  • All your extra "stuff" (jackets, food, extra inventory etc.) must be hidden under your booth table, hidden by your table cloth.

What is the schedule for the day?

Below is the tentative schedule for the fair.  We may make changes to this schedule as the big day approaches.

9:00-10:30 am - Set up

10:30-11:00 - Mentors will be stopping by your booth
11:00-11:30 - Vendor walk around (half of room)

11:30-12:00 - Vendor walk around (other half of room)

12:00 - 12:45 - Lunch/Open Ceremony and Awards

12:45 - 1:00 - Bathroom break

1:00-4:00 - The Fair
4:00-5:00 - Takedown & Cleanup

Do I need to arrive to the fair by a specific time?

Yes!

You will want to arrive at 9am to set up and are ready by 10:30 am. Starting at 10:30 the mentors/judges will be stopping by to have a conversation with you!

Is there a specific door I need to use when I arrive?

Yes!

The front door of the venue works.

Where can we park on fair day?

Unload your vehicle at the front door, then take your vehicle to the furthest point of the parking lot, allowing our guests to have good parking

How will I know where my booth is located?

There will be a registration table located at the front. Check in there to receive your booth number. A volunteer will happily assist you to your location.

There will be volunteers located around the space if you are having trouble finding your table or have any questions. Volunteers will be easily identifiable by the t-shirts

What will happen after the fair ends?

Once the event is finished, you can begin to take down your booth. However, if there are still customers in the room, be sensitive to those in the room. Clean your booth area (including the table and remove any garbage/recycle on the floor).

What happens during "mentors" and "walk around" time

From 10:30 to 11:00 you are encouraged to have your booth set up as the mentors will be coming by to have a conversation with you, giving you opportunity to practice your sales pitch. After that we will give all the vendors an opportunity to go see the other vendors. Half of the room will go walk around, and then after the 11:30 timeframe, we will switch up and the other half of the room will get the opportunity to walk around.

What is the role of the Parent/Guardian on fair day?
  • Ensure that kidpreneurs arrive on time to the fair for set up.

  • Ensure kidpreneurs follow all fair rules and guidelines.

  • Help the kidpreneurs bring items into the venue and assist with any heavy lifting and booth set up needs.

  • Pack snacks for their kidpreneur(s), lunch will be provided for the young entrepreneurs. Parents and guests will be able to purchase snacks/coffee/soft drinks at the bar run by the hall.

  • For businesses with just one kidpreneur, parents/guardians are asked to have one adult available to watch over their kidpreneur's booth and cash box if they need to go to the bathroom during the fair. Depending on age, they may also require an additional adult to take them.

*Parents/guardians are not to do the sales, pitching, customer interactions etc. for the kidpreneurs.

Do I need to bring a cash float?

Yes!

Kidpreneurs must arrive to the fair prepared with a cash float of small bills and coins so you can provide change to those paying with larger bills. There won't be anywhere to get change during the event.

Will there by an ATM on site?

No unfortunately there is not an ATM on site

Can I use a credit card processing system?

Yes!

If you have access to a credit card processing system like Square, you may use it to receive payments at the fair. (but keep in mind it's not mandatory)

Are there any rules around how I price my product/service?

Products/services should be priced to the nearest dollar to make money exchange as simple as possible for everyone. Many of the shoppers will be children themselves and this will make it much easier for them to participate!

What is the fair doing to be more environmentally friendly this year?

This year we are encouraging kidpreneurs to consider the environment in how they run their business and providing education around eco-friendly business practices! Our goal is for our fair to create the smallest carbon footprint possible.

Here are some ideas to get you started on an eco-friendly journey!

  • Avoid the use of single-use plastics (plastics that can only be used one time and then get thrown out)

  • Only bring reusable water bottles to the fair

  • Carpool with others to get to the fair and suggest carpooling to family/friends

  • Recycle!

  • Consider ways to reduce waste when creating your product
